According to Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur, Carlos Sainz’s victory in Australia has proven that Ferrari can indeed put pressure on Red Bull and also force them to make mistakes.
After Red Bull dominated the first two race weekends this season, an impressive winning streak of nine races in a row that Red Bull and Verstappen managed to win suddenly came to an end. Just like in Singapore last year, Carlos Sainz also managed to win the race in Australia, despite the fact that he had undergone an appendectomy sixteen days earlier.
Ferrari is of course very happy with the victory and according to team boss Frederic Vasseur, the race weekend in Australia proves that Ferrari is able to put pressure on Red Bull this season and force them to make mistakes.
“This is an extremely important step for us,” said Vasseur. “We have built up extra trust in the past month, but that was also the case during the latter part of last year.”
“And over this weekend I think we’ve proven that when we get everything right, and I’m not sure we’re going to be able to do that every weekend, but when we get everything done, we put them a little bit under being able to put pressure on.”
“And when they are under pressure they will make mistakes, it means we have to keep moving in this direction.”
