After a retirement during the Australian GP, Lewis Hamilton speaks of the worst start to the season ever in his F1 career. Three races into the season, Hamilton has so far achieved just eight points and is ninth in the championship.
The start of the race went well for Lewis Hamilton because he was slightly faster than the cars in front of him, but suddenly his Mercedes power source gave up the ghost out of nowhere and his race was over.
“I think it went well. I had new soft tires because I didn’t make it to Q3. I tried to do an undercut on some other riders. The speed was good, it wasn’t very good but I was overtaking. I was a little faster than the other cars in front of me and then the engine died,” said Hamilton.
Such a task out of nowhere must undoubtedly have been a mental blow for Hamilton, but all in all, he says, it wasn’t too bad.
“Surprisingly I’m feeling pretty good,” said Hamilton. “I guess just trying to put things into perspective, it could have been so much worse. I am truly grateful. I really enjoyed my time here in Australia.”
For Hamilton it is his worst start to the season ever in Formula 1: “It is certainly worse than in 2009.”
A difficult day.
