A report from the Korean publication Current Journal-E cites industry insiders who reveal that Apple has developed a “Border Reduction Structure” (BRS) to make the edges of the phone smaller.
The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will come in at 149.6 x 71.45 x 8.25 mm and 163 x 77.58 x 8.25 mm, respectively, which are approximately 3 mm longer and 1 mm wider than their predecessors, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
Speculative versions: iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
All four models will feature displays with BRS technology. However, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to retain the same screen dimensions as their predecessors, with a refresh rate of 60Hz. A 120Hz upgrade is planned for the iPhone 17 generation.
Interestingly, heat dissipation was a concern during the reduction in size of the phone’s bezel. Apple has come up with a simple solution that has been approved by its three display suppliers: Samsung Display, LG Display, and BOE.
“Companies do not seem to consider BRS technology overly challenging,” claims one insider. However, as mass production begins, Apple may adjust the production allocations among suppliers if any issues arise.
