Google’s Pixel 8a is set to launch soon, possibly in May at the annual I/O developer conference. We have already seen CAD-based renderings of it and recently heard a concerning rumor that it may be more expensive than the Pixel 7a.
Since then, we have been curious about what upgrades it might bring to justify the price increase, and today a new leak has provided the answer. The Pixel 8a will feature a 120Hz refresh rate, a first for an a-series Pixel, and will be powered by the Tensor G3 chipset, similar to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
The Pixel 8a’s screen will boast 1,400 nits of peak HDR brightness, and its design will align with that of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, as expected from its name. The 8a will also support DisplayPort output and will have the same cameras as the 7a.
One of the most exciting features of the Pixel 8a is its expanded availability. While the Pixel 7a is only available in 21 countries, the Pixel 8a will launch in those countries as well as in new ones: Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
