Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur decides after the first two races of the new F1 season that Ferrari is currently in a much better position than a year ago. According to Vasseur, the Ferarri SF-24 is a car that provides a better basis for further development.
“We have upgrades in the pipeline but I am sure we are not the only ones,” said Frederic Vasseur after the Saudi Arabian GP according to ‘Motorsport Week’. “When you look at last year you see that McLaren has seriously improved over the season, but I think it was mainly important for them to utilize the potential rather than it being about pure upgrades and we have improved but not with half a second.”
“It means that with this car and these rules you have a kind of convergence of performance and the development speed is much slower.”
“It means that it is important to be competitive from the start, to score a lot of points because last year we had a bad start.”
“I don’t think I’m focused on the championship today, but we got about 45 points and last year it was only 25 points after three races. It is important that we have a good start.”
According to Vasseur, there is a much better foundation to build on this season than last year and it is also good that the SF-24 is better to control and responds better.
“I think the fact that the car, and I don’t want to say it’s easier to drive, but in any case it has nothing to do with Oliver Bearman’s performance, but I think it’s easy to drive with this car to drive than a year ago. That is a good basis for further development because it is easier for the drivers to understand the car and how we can improve it.”
“With this situation, I think overall it’s a step forward,” Vasseur concludes.
