According to Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur, Carlos Sainz will probably be in the Ferrari F1 car again this coming race weekend in Australia. However, Oliver Bearman remains on standby if he still has to come on.
During the race weekend in Saudi Arabia, Carlos Sainz had to give up the rest of the race weekend after the second practice sessions on Thursday. After all, Sainz had to undergo surgery because of appendicitis. Sainz’s rehabilitation seems to be going well so far and the Spaniard will most likely return to his Ferrari F1 car.
Sainz had started the new season strongly with a podium finish during the opening race weekend in Bahrain, but due to his withdrawal from the Saudi Arabian GP he suffered a serious blow in the battle for the championship. However, next weekend he will normally have to be in the car himself again.
“It is expected that Carlos Sainz will be back in the car after missing the race in Jeddah due to appendicitis,” Ferrari said in a statement in the run-up to the Australian GP. “He and teammate Charles Leclerc will probably battle at the front, just as was the case in the first two races.”
