After a difficult start to the season, Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff is determined to work with everyone in the team to make the Mercedes W15 a lot more competitive. The coming race weekend in Australia should provide the first opportunity for this.
“We lost points in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia,” says Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff in Mercedes’ preview of the Australian GP. “We started both race weekends very strongly, we did our usual practice programs but were unable to deliver on our initial promises. With everyone so close together, maximizing the car’s potential on every weekend is very important.”
“Albert Park gives us another opportunity to show what we can do. It’s a great track in a great city, with passionate fans making themselves heard, we look forward to returning.”
After the race in Jeddah, Toto Wolff stated that there is a structural problem with the Mercedes W15, but he hopes that there will be an improvement from next weekend.
“We have worked hard since Jeddah to learn from the first two races,” said Toto Wolff. “It is encouraging to see the potential of the W15 but there are clearly still aspects that can be improved. We looked competitive in the slow and medium-fast corners, but the very fast corners are our weak point.”
“We worked hard to understand why our performance did not match our expectations. Improvement is our main focus.”
“We hope that we are making some progress in Melbourne and that this work will point our developments in the right direction for the coming weeks. It’s great to see the energy and dedication in both our factories as we try to unleash the potential of the car.”
