Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko does not want to completely rule out that Max Verstappen will succeed in winning all twenty-four races this season.
The season started well for Red Bull Racing last weekend in Bahrain with a one-two for Verstappen and Perez. For the three-time world champion, this even meant that he achieved pole position, led every lap and recorded the fastest lap. Teammate Sergio Perez had to give up no less than twenty-two seconds to the Dutchman.
We could tell that the competition took a good look at the RB19, while Red Bull surprised friend and foe by coming up with a brand new concept for the RB20. On paper, the new car performs even better than its predecessor and that makes life even more difficult for the competition.
With the victory in Bahrain, Red Bull has had another dream start. Max Verstappen noted that things went better than expected and Helmut Marko agrees with this in conversation with Motorsport-Total.
“I agree with that. After the test we thought we had a very strong package, but then we had problems on Thursday and Friday of the race weekend. On Saturday the wind died down and that helped us enormously.”
Last year Red Bull was sometimes able to outsmart a lap in the qualifying sessions, but on Sunday there was no limit and that also seems to be the case this year.
“The race showed the strengths of our car, the management and things like that. And Max was, as always, in a class of his own,” added Marko.
When asked whether Verstappen can win all races this season, Marko answers somewhat cautiously, but he does not want to rule it out completely.
“That would be nice!” Marko said. “But we saw that we did not succeed last year. We have a long way to go and our main goal remains to win both championships. We will take it step by step.”
“Jeddah is a completely different circuit, with very fast corners. If we are as dominant there as we are here, then we can look to the future with optimism,” Marko concluded.
