On Thursday evening, Tom Boonen presented his new rally car. Boonen will participate in the BRC 2024 with a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, together with co-driver Erwin Mombaerts. Boonen wants to build on the experience he gained during his apprenticeship. The goal is to run with the top five.

Boonen will drive the entire BRC 2024, starting with the Haspengouw Rally on February 24. “I'm already in athlete mode, watching the exploratory videos of Haspengouw, with my nose in the manual of the new car and also trying to train myself on a technical level,” says Boonen. “Just as I was looking forward to that first race in Belgium, I am now looking forward to that first rally. I have a lot of enthusiasm and am very motivated. 2023 was a voyage of discovery. 2024 is the second part of my three-year plan, where I will try to convert what I learned last year into speed.”
The top athlete of yesteryear is back and top athletes have ambitions. “Our aim is to be consistent, get points and complete the rallies successfully. I now want to try as much as possible to lean towards the top five. That is possible because I already have some experience and the steps that need to be taken have become smaller. A stage should not be an end in itself. I want to tackle every special stage with the necessary focus, with the aim of being fast. If you succeed and are spared from setbacks, a lot is possible. If leaning towards the top five suddenly becomes a podium, that's okay. But it is not a goal. Reason must always prevail. If I feel that things are going too fast, I slow down. Finishing every race is the most important thing.”
