In a response to the presentation of the Mercedes W15, Lewis Hamilton stated that he is also very motivated for his final F1 season at Mercedes, even though it is already known that Hamilton will drive for Ferrari next year.
The past two seasons have been particularly difficult for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. Ultimately, Mercedes decided to abandon its 'zero sidepod concept', but the update halfway through the past season could not solve all the problems, so they had to wait until the new car for the 2024 F1 season.
“What we have learned over the past two years has helped us find a direction,” Hamilton said following the presentation of the Mercedes W15. “It helped us find the 'Northern Lights'.”
“If you are not comfortable in the car, you will not get maximum performance out of it. A more stable, more predictable car will ensure that we can get the potential not only out of the car but also out of ourselves as drivers.”
Now that Mercedes knows which direction to take, the first signals for the new F1 season are encouraging, although Hamilton did not wait until that season to make the decision to join Ferrari in 2025. However, according to Hamilton, this decision will not detract from his motivation for his upcoming final season as a Mercedes driver.
“We are all very motivated for next year and we will give everything,” said Hamilton, without elaborating on his upcoming switch from Mercedes to Ferrari. “I know what this team is capable of. I am incredibly grateful for the work that every person on this team does. Every time you are in the factory you see the enormous drive and dedication of everyone.”
