Have you installed Microsoft Copilot on your smartphone and gotten lost? Don’t worry, because our Copilot guide will help you get started.
Copilot guide: How to Use the App
Previously, we mentioned that Microsoft’s Copilot app is an ideal starting point if you want to get started with generative artificial intelligence. This free app provides access to advanced versions of this technology (for those in the know: GPT 4 and Dall-E 3).
If you are new to this technology, the app can be a bit overwhelming. That is why our article aims to explain how Copilot works.
Download and Log In
You can download the app for free from the Play Store. You can use the app without logging in, but you will have fewer functions. We recommend logging in with a Microsoft account.
You can create a Microsoft account for free, but you probably already have one for Skype or Live-mail.
The First Steps
The main screen of Copilot, an app that makes generative artificial intelligence accessible, can be quite overwhelming. There’s a check mark at the top, questions you can tap on, and someone appears to be talking to you in a chat.
Most of what you see on the screen is intended as inspiration. For example, a question like “Where should I travel if I suffer from pollen allergies?” gives you an idea of the types of questions you can ask Copilot. You can tap the question to get an answer.
The options at the bottom are also intended for inspiration. For example, it could say ‘write an essay’ or ‘play trivia’. You can start a conversation with Copilot by tapping on these but you don’t have to.
Using GPT-4
To use GPT-4, enable the check mark at the top. Otherwise, you will be using GPT-3.5, which is a less advanced version. A disadvantage of GPT-4 is that the answers can take a little longer.
Start Asking Questions
To start asking Copilot questions, tap the bar at the bottom that says ‘Ask me anything you want’ or tap the icon of a chat cloud with a plus sign in it. You can ask Copilot a question by typing or using the microphone.
You can ask Copilot questions you’d normally look up on Google, but you can also ask the chatbot to generate texts, summarize your own text, or do final editing on a text.
Generate Images
GPT-4 allows you to work with text, and Dall-E 3 makes it possible to generate images. You don’t have to do anything special in the app for this. Simply start a prompt with ‘Generate an image of…’ and describe what you want an image of.
After giving it some thought, Copilot will present you with four images. You can tap one, then press the three-dot icon and tap ‘download’ to save the image.
