A super stunt in the making in Formula 1? After previous Italian reporting, the generally well-informed Spanish know AS it is almost certain: seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (39) will switch from Mercedes to Ferrari after 2024.
Ferrari broke open the contract of Charles Leclerc last week, but the deal of Spanish driver Carlos Sainz expires after next season. He was also in negotiations to extend his contract. Those talks now appear to have broken off and the Italian Corriere della Sera in formu1a.uno reported on Thursday morning Ferrari's renewed, concrete interest in Hamilton. Later in the day, Sky Sports and The Daily Mail confirmed the rumors.

There has been speculation for years about a switch from the now 39-year-old Hamilton to Maranello. The Brit has never hidden his love for Ferrari. Last year he extended his contract with Mercedes until 2025, but nowadays almost every multi-year Formula 1 contract contains certain clauses to part ways prematurely.
Ferrari is hopeful
The deal between Ferrari and Hamilton still has to be completed. By hinting to the Sainz camp that the Scuderia is fully committed to the Hamilton project, alongside Leclerc, it indicates that Ferrari has good hopes that the final touches can be completed quickly.
Hamilton made his Formula 1 debut on behalf of McLaren in 2007 and became world champion for the first time the following season. He has been driving for Mercedes since 2013. Last year Hamilton finished third in the World Championship standings. His last race victory dates back to December 5, 2021, when he crossed the line first in Jeddah.
