The reviews for the Apple Vision Pro are in, so we now have all the details about the battery’s specs. When pre-orders began, Apple only disclosed that the battery was good for two hours of “general use” and 2.5 hours of video viewing. As it turns out, these estimates were pretty accurate, maybe even a little conservative.
If you’ve been wondering all along about the actual capacity of the battery, the mystery is now solved: it is 3,166 mAh. At first glance, this might not sound like much, especially considering its size and weight of 353g, but there’s a twist.
Vision Pro Battery specifications:
3166 mAh
35.9 Wh
Output 13V 6A max
Model number: A2781 pic.twitter.com/XoSbxhHEHA— Aaron (@aaronp613) 30 January 2024
What’s impressive is that it is capable of 13V 6A maximum output, with a voltage that far exceeds what any 3.8V phone battery can provide. An equivalent 35.9 Wh for a typical phone battery voltage would result in a capacity of 9,440 mAh. So, if you’re thinking something along the lines of “it just looks like a 10,000 mAh power bank” – well, you’re not far off.
As you probably already know, the Vision Pro’s battery is external and has its own connector to attach to the headset, as well as a USB-C port that charges it with the unexpectedly included 30W wall charger. The proprietary connector uses a twist-to-lock system to connect to the headset without much fiddling.
Apple does sell extra battery packs for the Vision Pro for $200 each, but it’s important to note that they are not hot-swappable. When the cable is disconnected, the headset powers off and then recharges when the new battery is connected.
The Vision Pro won’t be available in the US until this Friday, February 2nd. It is expected to launch in additional countries later this year.
