513 kilometers is the official range of the new 2023 Tesla Model 3 RWD. But what is the real range of the Model 3 Highland? So how far will you get if you drive down the highway at 100 km/h (or 130 km/h)? We test that!
Tesla does something strange: it mentions 513 kilometers as the WLTP range on the website, but that is in combination with the optional 19-inch wheels. With the standard 18-inch wheels, the specified range is even greater: 554 kilometers.
We focus on 513 kilometers, because our test car has the new 19-inch Nova wheels. The paint color is called Stealth Gray and is also new.
This is how we test
We drive our standard test lap of 100 kilometers. We do this at 100 and 130 km/h. Here are two consumption figures and we use them to calculate the range of a full battery. Since Tesla itself does not communicate how large the battery pack of the Tesla Model 3 RWD is, we use our own measurement: 57 kWh. Finally, the weather report: during the day it is 7 degrees, in the evening it is slightly warmer: 9 degrees.
Consumption figures ‘Current trip’. Left 100 km/h, right 130 km/h.
Tesla Model 3 (2023): range at 100 km/h
At 100 km/h, the new Model 3 has an average power consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km under the mentioned weather conditions. If you drive a full battery with a usable capacity of 57 kWh completely empty, you will arrive 372 kilometer ver.
That’s good news and bad news. On the one hand, a consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km is super economical. For your imaging: the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (range test) scored 16.9 kWh/100 km. On the other hand, a range of 372 kilometers is disappointing if you hope for 513 kilometers.
