Next season and the year after that, the differences between the teams will only become smaller, according to Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack, but he does not suddenly expect a 'shock effect' that will mix everything up.
“When you have stable rules, as it is now, the teams evolve more gradually,” Krack told 'Motorsport.com'. “When you have a car that really stands out, like with the Red Bull, a lot of people will try to go in that direction.”
“On the other hand, we have also heard from Ferrari and Mercedes that they are going to make major design changes. I am therefore curious to see what they will come up with.”
“However, when you look at it, what usually happens when the technical rules remain the same, is that the driver field gets closer together year after year.”
According to the Aston Martin team boss, we clearly saw a big difference by the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi. Then the entire driver field was within about six seven tenths during qualifying. According to Krack, it depends much more on the details of where you are at that moment, as they can make a very big difference in results.
“Stable rules ensure that more emphasis is placed on how you execute everything, when the cars are closer together it is really the small details that make the difference in grid position,” said Krack.
“I think that the small differences will only become smaller in the coming years. So to get back to the original question: I would be surprised if there were any major differences from where we are now.”
