Stoffel Vandoorne (DS Penske) finished in fifth place in the second ePrix of Diriyah in Saudi Arabia, the third round of the Formula E World Championship. New Zealander Nick Cassidy (Jaguar TCS) took victory.
In the qualifications, Vandoorne, 14th in the first heat in Diriyah on Friday, took fourth place. The 2022 world champion had to give up a place in the race. His French teammate Jean-Éric Vergne, who started eighth, retained that position.
Nick Cassidy won ahead of Dutchman Robin Frijns (Envision Racing). Briton Oliver Rowland (Nissan), who started from pole position, completed the podium. The British reigning world champion Jake Dennis (Andretti), who triumphed on Friday, had to be satisfied with tenth place this time.
The German Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche), seventh on Saturday, has to give up the lead in the world championship standings to Nick Cassidy, who has 56 points. Wehrlein follows with 38 points. Vergne is third with 33 points. Vandoorne remains 11th with 14 points.
The fourth ePrix of the season is scheduled for March 16 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A total of sixteen heats are on the program.
