Ferrari has confirmed that Dutch Maya Weug will represent the Italian brand in the F1 Academy.
The Dutch Weug has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2021 and in December Ferrari announced that it would allow ‘its ladies’ from the Driver Academy to participate in the F1 Academy. In addition to Maya Weug, there is also the Brazilian Aurelia Nobels, but it is Weug who will represent Ferrari in the F1 Academy.
The F1 Academy was founded to ensure that women have more opportunities to express themselves and grow in motorsport after the decline of the W Series. From the 2024 season, F1 teams must nominate and support a driver for her participation in the F1 Academy.
Formula 1 undoubtedly hopes that a woman will return to the Formula 1 starting grid in the coming years.
