Helmut Marko doesn’t want to stop for a while. The now eighty-year-old top advisor of Red Bull Racing will continue for at least three more years.
Marko does not have a contract with Red Bull Racing, but he does have a contract with the Red Bull brand itself. That commitment was due to expire after 2024, but will be extended for three years. Insiders confirm this after earlier reporting PlanetF1.
The Austrian is the man who recruited Max Verstappen to Red Bull in 2014 at the age of sixteen and also promised him a Formula 1 spot at the then Toro Rosso for the following year. Another season later, Verstappen was promoted to the top team Red Bull Racing. The rest is history.
Struggles
Last season it became clear that there were some struggles between Red Bull team boss Christian Horner and Marko, after team founder Dietrich Mateschitz died in 2022. Verstappen was committed internally to retaining Marko for the team. The three-time world champion has unwavering confidence in the knowledge and skills of the Austrian.
“Red Bull should not want to continue without Helmut,” Verstappen said in November. “For me, that has to do with respect and loyalty. That’s number one for me. That’s how I feel when I look at the contract between me and the team. I also feel that mutual respect from Helmut. I will not let him fall.”
