During a strong debut season, Oscar Piastri finished twice on the podium and won the sprint race in Qatar. All this resulted in a ninth place in the drivers’ championship. As far as the 2024 F1 season is concerned, Piastri has already set himself a clear goal.
After his much-discussed switch from Alpine to McLaren to become Lando Norris’s teammate and to start his first F1 season, we had to wait to see how the Australian would perform. It must be said, Piastri left a very good impression. As soon as the McLaren F1 car became more efficient, Piastri achieved some impressive performances.
Piastri has now familiarized himself well with the team, knows the circuits, all of this should contribute to his second season in Formula 1 going just that little bit smoother and allowing him to raise the bar, although much of course also depends depends on how competitive the McLaren F1 car will be.
“Hopefully everything will be a little more comfortable, a little more natural from the start, I’ll just keep doing the same thing,” Piastri looks ahead to next season.
“If that means we finish on the podium or even win, then of course I will try to do that. If that means we can finish sixth or seventh, then I’ll try to do that. I’m just going to try to keep growing.”
“I have some clear goals, I want to try to improve on my first season. But yes, it remains a matter of finding something here and there and seeing where we end up.”
