According to Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, Max Verstappen has matured as a driver in recent years, but at the same time he also believes that Verstappen still expresses his own opinion. At Red Bull they don’t try to turn their drivers into PR robots.
“We believe that our drivers should have freedom,” Horner told ‘Motorsport.com’. “They are not robots, they have their own opinions. Max also has his opinion that he has as a world champion and has a weight, we do not limit him to make a PR story.”
“He is an honest, young guy who says what he thinks about things. I think that’s actually refreshing.
According to Horner, Max Verstappen has evolved not only as a driver but also in terms of his character. Yet Horner also believes that Verstappen has not changed in many areas.
“I think he’s changing because he’s matured a bit, he’s got a bit more ‘beard growth’,” Horner jokes. “But no, in essence he has actually remained the same.”
“He still gets in the car, drives it and gets the most out of it. He still doesn’t like the fuss surrounding Formula 1, he never liked that.”
