Logan Sargeant will also be behind the wheel of Williams’ F1 car next season, the British racing team announced on Friday afternoon. The 22-year-old American signed a contract until the end of 2024.
The announcement comes as a surprise to many F1 fans, as Sargeant was only able to achieve one World Championship point in his very first season in the premier class of motorsport. For example, the young American finished tenth during his home race in Austin during the United States GP. In addition, his Thai-British teammate Alexander Albon, who was able to collect 27 World Championship points, outclassed him several times and several of his races were marked by crashes.
“I am thrilled to continue with Williams Racing for the 2024 season,” Sargeant commented on his extended stay. “It has been an incredible journey with the team so far and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a pilot within such a talented and dedicated group. “We have big plans for the future and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success in the coming year.”
“Tremendous skills”
Team boss James Vowles is also happy that Sargeant will remain with the team. “Logan has demonstrated tremendous skills under the pressure of the global stage, making him a perfect fit for our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the coming season.”
Due to Sargeant’s extended stay at Williams, all seats for next season in Formula 1 have now been filled. With the exception of the change between the Australian Daniel Ricciardo and the Dutchman Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri, every driver will remain with his current team.
