The regulations for engines will be changed in 2026, with more focus on electrical energy. McLaren will therefore start this new era with Mercedes engines. The British team has been using Mercedes’ power source since 2021, and previously from 1995 to 2014. The previous agreement was due to expire at the end of 2025.
After less successful engine deals with Honda and Renault, McLaren had a better period with the support of Mercedes. Daniel Ricciardo gave the team its first victory in nine years in the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. McLaren has also taken 15 podium places in the past three years.
The last GP of the season is scheduled for this weekend in Abu Dhabi.
