Formula 1 racing stable Aston Martin wants to continue with Fernando Alonso after 2024. “I don’t even have to answer the question of whether we want to extend his contract. It is absolutely yes,” said team boss Mike Krack on Friday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of this year.

The 42-year-old Alonso is in his first season with the British team and is performing above expectations. The Spaniard, who became world champion twice with Renault (2005 and 2006), has already finished on the podium eight times this year: third five times and second three times.
“We were impressed with him from day one and still are. Fernando is a remarkable team player. Always constructive, especially when things are difficult.”
Alonso is fifth in the World Cup standings with the same number of points as Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz. He is the Formula 1 record holder with 376 starts in a Grand Prix. The Spaniard called 2023 his best season since 2012, when he drove for Ferrari and lost the world title game to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.
