Ferrari is playing a low-key role in Felipe Massa’s pursuit of the 2008 world title against Lewis Hamilton, but the expectation from the Brazilian, a long-time Ferrari driver, is that Ferrari will eventually get involved in the contest.
Felipe Massa’s legal challenge against the allocation of the 2008 world title to Lewis Hamilton has been public knowledge for months. His action is not directed at Hamilton, but rather at F1 and the FIA, both of which were aware at the time of the foul play during the Singapore GP.
Felipe Massa insists that the Singapore GP should not have been a deciding factor in the 2008 F1 world title. While Massa has voiced his opinion, Ferrari, the team he was driving for at the time, has largely remained silent. However, Massa remains optimistic about Ferrari’s support in his quest for the 2008 world title.
Massa feels encouraged by the numerous interviews in which Toto Wolff has criticized the controversial 2021 season finale, where Max Verstappen snatched the world title from Lewis Hamilton at the last minute.
“Every time you hear Toto Wolff talking about 2021, he is the person who supports me the most, so I really can’t believe Ferrari doesn’t want to be in that situation with me,” said Massa. “Right now they are quiet, but I really believe that they will be on my side, and I hope that is the case because it is the right thing to do after what happened to us. What happened to me also happened to Ferrari.”
