The new Samsung Galaxy S23 FE has officially launched in Australia, offering flagship-level features at a more affordable price point. However, there are several other options to consider when looking for a new smartphone.
The Australian version of the S23 FE is equipped with the Exynos 2200 chipset, an upgrade from the previous Exynos 2100 found in the S21 FE. In addition to the faster chipset, the 2023 FE model boasts a 50MP main camera, a significant improvement from the 12MP sensor of its predecessor. Despite these enhancements, both models share similar specifications including the 6.4” FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, the 8MP 3x tele and 12MP 123° ultra-wide cameras, and a 4,500mAh battery with 25W charging. It’s worth noting that the S23 FE is slightly thicker and heavier compared to the S21 FE, but both models are IP68 rated.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE incorporates the newer Gorilla Glass Victus for screen protection, whereas the S23 FE utilizes a panel of GG5. The back of the S21 FE is made of plastic, while the S23 FE uses GG5. Both models feature aluminum frames and are also IP68 rated. Additionally, the S21 FE boasts a 32MP selfie camera compared to the 10MP front camera on the new S23 FE.

For those considering a more budget-friendly option, the Samsung Galaxy A54 could be a suitable choice. Notably, the A54 launched with Android 13 and is expected to receive support and updates until 2028, offering a longer software lifespan compared to the S21 FE. Both the A54 and S21 FE feature 6.4” FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED displays and 50MP main cameras. The A54’s sensor is even larger at 1/1.56” compared to 1/1.76” in the S21 FE. The A54 also includes 12MP ultra-wide and 32MP selfie cameras. However, it lacks a telephoto module and is powered by the mid-range Exynos 1380 chipset, which provides efficient battery performance alongside its larger 5,000mAh battery capacity.

Another option to consider is the Samsung Galaxy A34, which features a larger 6.6” FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED screen and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset. Although the main camera gets downgraded to a 48MP 1/2.0” sensor, the A34 provides a more affordable price point, making it an attractive choice for budget-conscious consumers.

For those seeking a higher-end option, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion presents an appealing choice. Equipped with the Snapdragon 888+ chipset and a vibrant 6.55” 144Hz FHD+ OLED display, the Edge 30 Fusion offers a compelling combination of performance and visual quality. While lacking a telephoto camera, it features a 50MP main (1/1.55”) and 13MP ultra-wide camera, along with a 32MP selfie camera. The device also includes a 4,400mAh battery with 68W fast charging, delivering efficient power utilization and rapid charging capabilities.

Additionally, there are several 5G-capable smartphones available, such as the Nokia G60 and Motorola Moto G53, which cater to those seeking affordable yet feature-packed options in the market. Both devices offer unique characteristics and competitive features, making them suitable choices for various consumer preferences.
