In the stewards’ report on the rejected hearing of the Haas F1 team regarding the final ranking of the United States GP, the stewards describe the rules regarding track limits as completely unsatisfactory.
The Haas team wanted a revision of the final classification of the United States GP because several violations of the track limits by Lance Stroll, Alex Albon and Sergio Perez, among others, had gone unpunished. The so-called Right of Review was rejected but the stewards did acknowledge the lack of clarity about the track limit rules.
The stewards have completed their report on the United States GP and it states, among other things, the following:
“Given that, despite the formal outcome of this decision, the stewards have seen individual pieces of evidence pointing to possible infringements of the limits on the track at the apex of Turn 6, they find their inability to implement the current standard for limits on the track job for all participants is completely unsatisfactory and they therefore strongly advise all involved to find a solution quickly to prevent this widespread problem from recurring.
“Whether the problem is properly addressed through better technological solutions, track modifications, a combination of these or other regulatory and enforcement standards, the stewards will leave to those better placed to make such assessments.
“However, based on the timing of this decision, it is clear that a complete solution is not practically possible this year.
“But given the number of different circuits experiencing significant issues with track limits this season, and given that the FIA has already made significant progress together with the circuits, further solutions must be found before the start of the 2024 F1 season .”
