A man was fatally shot near the circuit of the Mexican Formula 1 Grand Prix on Sunday. The race will proceed as planned.
A 35-year-old man, who attempted to steal a car, was fatally shot. Reports from local media state that three police officers and a taxi driver were also injured in the exchange of gunfire. The Minister of Citizen Security has confirmed the incident in an official statement.
Safety concerns have been raised at the Mexican Grand Prix. In fact, reigning world champion Max Verstappen has hired personal security guards for the first time to protect himself from overly aggressive fans. Verstappen was booed by passionate supporters of his Mexican teammate Sergio Pérez during the previous race in Austin.
Last year, there were incidents of overcrowding in the paddock area. Team members and drivers complained about the excessive pushing and some even reported theft of personal belongings.
