According to Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull is currently in a luxurious position when it comes to determining the racing seats for 2025, and in particular those of the RB team.
Of course, Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson are the most obvious names for the two racing seats at RB in 2025, but according to Dr. Helmut Marko, there are certainly more candidates.
“It’s a luxury problem,” Marko told ‘Motorsport.com’. “In addition to Tsunoda, we have another Honda rider who rides very good races and that is Ayumu Iwasa.”
“He hasn’t won a race yet this year (in Japanese Super Formula) because he had two bad starts but he’s still third in the championship.”
“Tsunoda and Iwasa are two Japanese riders who have a long-term contract with us so we will see what that means in the long term.”
Helmut Marko was then asked what Iwasa had to do to secure a racing seat in Formula 1.
“Winning the Super Formula championship,” Marko replied. “Show us how he wins that first. His first race was not good but during his second race he was actually the best driver.”
Of course, the second race seat at Red Bull Racing may also help determine who the driving duo will be at the RB team. If one of the RB drivers replaces Sergio Perez, a race seat will also become available in the RB team.
