Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) collected twelve points on Sunday on the final day of the Rally of Sardinia, the sixth of thirteen World Cup rounds, and remains in the lead in the World Cup standings. His Estonian teammate Ott Tänak took the overall victory in Sardinia, ahead of the Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) and the Spaniard Dani Sordo (Hyundai).
Ogier (Toyota Yaris Rally1) suffered a puncture in the power stage and finished second at 0.2 seconds, Neuville (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) had to retire on Saturday after a slide. Our compatriot limited the damage on Sunday by winning the daily classification and the power stage. Neuville remains the leader in the World Cup standings. Grégoire Munster (Ford Puma Rally1) finished in fifth place, his best result of the season.

Ogier immediately took the lead in Sardinia on Friday morning. On Saturday morning he played leapfrog twice with Tänak, who had to take over on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning, Tänak won two stages. Ogier seemed to be on his way to victory until he suffered a puncture in the last stage and lost the victory. “I had a puncture at 3 km from the finish. The test was so bad. This was more of a rally raid than a rally,” he sighed. “We deserved the win, but that’s the way it is. Ott also drove a good rally.”
And so Tänak wins his first rally for Hyundai since returning to the team at the beginning of this year. It is his 20th World Cup victory, his 3rd in Sardinia. Dani Sordo (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) finished third and was on a World Cup podium for the 57th time. With two cars in the top three, Hyundai increases its lead in the World Championship standings among the manufacturers to 13 points over Toyota. Neuville remains the leader among the drivers. He scored the maximum of 12 points on Sunday. In the World Cup standings he has 122 points. That is 18 more than Elfyn Evans (Toyota Yaris), who finished fourth in Sardinia, and Ott Tänak
The next World Cup rally is in Poland at the end of June.
