Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko sheds light on the incident between Alpine riders Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly.
In his column for ‘Speedweek’ Helmut Marko says that he is not unfamiliar with the situation at Alpine, because they were also confronted with it twice at Red Bull. “We have had this twice at Red Bull Racing with teammates who ended up in each other’s way, once in 2018 with Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen in Baku and once with Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel in 2010 in Turkey.”
“In both cases, we called both riders into the company and discussed it openly with them, making it clear to them that such clashes with teammates are simply not acceptable,” Marko continues. “Ricciardo then left us at the end of the season and there were no more such incidents with Webber.”
“It is difficult to take action in such a case because you have to be able to prove clear intent and that is not the case. The driver then says that he misjudged the accident, so there is no longer any question of intent. However, the problem with Alpine is that it was not the first time, and I think that makes things even more difficult,” Marko concludes on this topic.
