Sony has always had a reputation for high quality, but their products tend to be on the more expensive side – and that description seems fitting for the Xperia 1 VI, based on the results and feedback from last week’s poll. The poll also sought to gauge interest in the Xperia 10 VI mid-range, but let’s begin with the good news…oops, spoiler alert.
Half of the voters have shown interest in the flagship Mark 6. The unique camera setup and significantly improved battery life caught the attention of many. The reduced resolution of the screen contributed to the enhanced battery life, but it sparked debates – is 1080p+ sufficient for a flagship device? Did 4K ever make sense on a small screen like this? Why didn’t Sony opt for the middle ground and go with 1440p+? Different opinions arise depending on who you ask.
Sony has confirmed that the Xperia 1 VI will not be available in the US (despite the Mark 5 being available there) and will not be coming to other regions either. However, this doesn’t seem to be a major issue as only 14% of the voters are potential buyers residing in such regions.
While the €1,400/£1,300 price point of the 1 VI deterred many prospective buyers, the Sony Xperia 10 VI faced more significant issues beyond its €400/£350 price tag – chiefly, it didn’t quite meet the expectations of a mid-range device. Apple might get away with 60Hz screens in 2024, but Xperias are not iPhones.
A modern mid-range device offers a 120Hz screen (or higher!), a more advanced chipset, longer software support (both the 1 and 10 will receive 3 OS updates and 4 years of security patches), and more. The Xperia does have its own advantages – like the 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD slot – but those who prioritize such features are in the minority.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI and 10 VI are currently available for pre-order and are expected to start shipping in June.
