Tensions between F1 and the FIA have dominated mutual cooperation in recent months. These tensions now appear to have been resolved and work is being done on a new joint plan for the future of Formula 1.
Especially after the controversial season finale in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2021, tensions between F1 and the FIA appear to have increased. For example, there was the investigation into possible interference by FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem in the inspection of the Las Vegas circuit and in whether or not a penalty for Fernando Alonso was withdrawn.
Ben Sulayem also angered F1 boss Stefano Domenicali and F1 owner Liberty Media by wading into discussions over a bid that Saudi-Arabische Public Investment Fund wanted to do in Formula 1. According to the FIA chairman, Formula 1’s price tag was inflated.
In addition, there was also Andretti’s candidacy for an F1 participation, which the FIA approved, but Formula 1 in turn rejected. It all led to increasing tensions between F1 and the FIA, but everything now seems to have been resolved between F1 and the FIA. They said the following in a statement.
“The FIA Formula 1 World Championship has never been stronger and it is growing globally, the FIA and Formula 1 are committed to delivering the best possible outcome for the sport.”
“To achieve this, both parties are developing a new strategic plan that will enable us to further increase the potential of Formula 1 in the coming years.”
Sand over it, surely? While it lasts …
