Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff responded to Oliver Mintzlaff’s words after the Miami Grand Prix. Red Bull’s sports director said a day earlier in Bild that he did not think it was appropriate for Wolff to openly express his interest in Max Verstappen and that he could better focus on his own challenges.
“I don’t know why this man is saying this. This man is not relevant to me,” said Wolff. “As I said before, if I were Max I wouldn’t leave. At least not before 2026. But he is the man at the moment, so he has to make his own decision.”
Wolff hopes that Mercedes can quickly take steps forward. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished sixth and eighth respectively in Miami.
“Unlike previous years, we know much better where and why we are struggling. Everyone in our factories is working in sixth gear to bring new parts that help us. You can see from McLaren how you can progress in a year, last season they finished seventeenth and nineteenth. That is also good for the sport. I’m very happy for them. They won fairly, with a Mercedes engine.”
