We have heard rumors that a new Vivo X100s will be unveiled in May and that it will come with a Dimensity 9300+ processor. No specific date was given, but we now have a good candidate – MediaTek has officially announced that the 9300+ will be unveiled on May 7 (next Tuesday).
There is no mention of Vivo, so the chipset could be released before the phone. What the company does mention is the AI functionality that will be a highlight of the new chipset – the theme of the conference is “AI for everything”.
Earlier today, there was a big leak showing the changes from the original Dimensity 9300 to the plus model. It offers higher CPU performance as the prime Cortex-X4 core runs at 3.4GHz (up from 3.25GHz). The other three X4 cores remain at 2.85GHz and the four A720 cores at 2.0GHz.

As mentioned, AI will be a significant feature of the new chipset and the Vivo X100s. Vivo shared demo images showing how the phone can take a photo and change the season with generative AI.
The 9300 already has an “APU” – unlike the common usage of the abbreviation, it stands for “AI Processing Unit” here. There are no details on it yet, but presumably, it will also get a boost, not just the CPU.
The Dimensity 9200+ was unveiled at last year’s MediaTek Dimensity Developer Conference on May 10, and the 9300+ will be the star of the 2024 conference. It included a GPU overclock, not just CPU, and was used by Vivo (for the X90 series), as well as Oppo and Xiaomi.
MediaTek is putting the finishing touches on the next generation flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400, expected to be ready in the last quarter of this year. According to leaks, the chip will move to a 3nm TSMC node (N3E) and will switch the main core to a Cortex-X5 (with the other cores remaining the same, i.e., 3x X4 and 4x A720). Early benchmarks show it edging out the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in multi-core (but not single-core) Geekbench and in AnTuTu. The 9400 will, of course, also bring improved AI performance.
