Polestar, renowned for its electric vehicles, has finally unveiled its debut smartphone: the Polestar Phone. This new device is set to launch in China initially and is expected to attract interest from Polestar car owners.
Polestar Phone Officially Presented
When you hear the name Polestar, smartphones may not be the first thing that comes to mind. The brand is primarily known for its electric car production. For instance, we recently discussed the integration of Android Automotive in Polestar vehicles with Anya Ernest.
Despite its primary focus on electric vehicles, Polestar has entered the smartphone market with the launch of its Polestar Phone in China. This development is largely a response to the plans of tech giants like Huawei and Xiaomi to venture into the electric car industry. The aim is to offer seamless connectivity with Polestar vehicles and retain customers within the Polestar ecosystem instead of losing them to rival brands.
High-End Specifications
The Polestar Phone comes equipped with top-of-the-line features, including a 6.8-inch OLED display with a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio, similar to the Sony Xperia 1 III. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth visuals, while the display’s brightness of 1850 nits makes it easy to view content in any lighting conditions.
Under the hood, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor for exceptional performance, along with 16GB of RAM and a whopping 1TB of storage. Polestar also promises various AI capabilities, such as image processing and text summarization.
The phone is backed by a 5050 mAh battery that supports wireless charging at speeds up to 50 watts, though the wired charging speed remains undisclosed. In terms of camera capabilities, the Polestar Phone features a 50MP primary camera, a 13MP wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens on the rear, accompanied by a 32MP front camera for selfies.
Collaborating with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu, Polestar has designed the phone which shares identical specifications with the Meizu 21 Pro. The emphasis is on a minimalist design, characterized by thin bezels and a sleek appearance. Weighing 214 grams, this handset is IP68-certified for water and dust resistance and is available only in a white color variant.
Only in China?
As of now, the Polestar Phone is slated for release exclusively in China, likely in response to the strategies of Huawei and Xiaomi. Priced at over $1,000, the chances of it being made available in the UK appear slim at present.
