Wireless earbuds have made great strides in recent years. However, battery degradation remains their Achilles’ heel, ultimately rendering them disposable after a certain time. Fairphone aims to change that narrative with its new Fairbuds wireless earbuds. This marks Fairphone’s second venture into the in-ear TWS earbuds market, offering the signature modular design with a strong emphasis on easy repairability.
Fairphone will provide replacement parts for the earbud battery, silicone ring covering the battery compartment of the charging case, as well as the charging case core and shell. Users can effortlessly replace key parts on the Fairbuds due to their modular design, requiring only a Phillips #00 screwdriver and a pry tool. The sole remaining query pertains to the pricing of these replacement parts.
Similar to all Fairphone products, Fairbuds are crafted from fair and recycled materials, maintaining an electronic waste-neutral stance.
The remaining specifications include titanium-coated 11mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and multi-point pairing capabilities with two devices. Fairbuds feature wear sensors for automatic play and pause, along with capacitive touch controls for volume adjustments. Additionally, they are equipped with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Environmental Noise Canceling (ENC) for calls, achieved through their six microphones, distributed three on each earcup.
Each Fairbud contains a 45mAh battery, while the charging case houses a 500mAh cell. Battery life on the earbuds is rated at 6 hours, with an additional 20 hours provided by the case. The earbuds hold an IP54 rating and can be paired with the Fairbuds Android and iOS companion app, featuring customizable EQ controls and remapping functionality.
