During the Japanese GP, Max Verstappen managed to achieve his third victory of this season. Yet Verstappen was not completely satisfied with the setup of his car. The front wing had to be adjusted during the first pit stop, which meant he actually had to admit his mistake to his race engineer Lambiase.
Before his first pit stop, there was some sort of discussion between Max Verstappen and his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase about possibly adjusting the front wing of Verstappen’s Red Bull RB20.
“Yes, maybe one or two clicks less is okay,” Verstappen said to Lambiase, who in turn wanted Verstappen to admit his mistake.
“I’m not going to say I told you so, but I understood. Thank you,” replied Lambiase, seeming to confirm that there had been a discussion between the two beforehand.
“We didn’t argue but he said, ‘Are you sure you want to do that?’ I was pretty sure and it turned out to be wrong!” Verstappen replied. “But he was right.”
“In a way it fires me up because even if we are not completely happy with the balance, I will still try to be consistent and not shout at him over the on-board radio.”
“We have a great relationship and it works so well.”
