Mercedes had some disappointing news for Lewis Hamilton this week. His Mercedes engine, which malfunctioned during the Australian GP, cannot be fixed.
During the Australian GP, Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire his Mercedes F1 car due to engine issues. Mercedes had been hoping to repair the engine so that it could be put back into rotation for future races.
The faulty Mercedes engine was sent back to the factory in Brixworth for a thorough examination. The investigation revealed that there was no underlying design flaw causing the problem. However, it was determined that there had been a quality control issue during the manufacturing process which ultimately led to the engine failure during the Australian GP.
Unfortunately for Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes engine cannot be repaired and will no longer be available for use during the rest of the F1 season. With 24 races scheduled for this year and only three engines left at Hamilton’s disposal, the seven-time world champion is now facing the likelihood of having to use an additional engine later in the season, resulting in a grid penalty.
