Motorola unveiled the Motorola Edge 50 Pro today at a grand event in New Delhi, India in Black Beauty, Luxe Lavender, and Moonlight Pearl colors. We had the opportunity to spend some time with the lavender version, and here are our first impressions of the phone.
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro comes in a plastic-free, eco-friendly retail package made from 80% recycled materials. It includes a charging cable, a SIM eject tool, a “climate-friendly” protective case that matches the smartphone’s color, and a power adapter.
Motorola has also added what it calls “Moto Fragrance” to the Edge 50 Pro’s box for a “unique sensory experience” and “sensory connection.” The scent is quite pleasant and impressive, adding to the unboxing experience. The fragrance emitted by the Edge 50 Pro is also pleasant, but we expect it to dissipate within a few days.
The smartphone itself is built around a 6.7″ 144Hz 10-bit curved POLED display with a 1,220p resolution. It is a Pantone Validated True Color Display with 2,000 nits peak brightness and HDR10+ support. This validation ensures that it correctly reproduces all types of human skin tones.
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s screen is protected by Gorilla Glass, although Motorola hasn’t revealed the exact version. It features a centered punch hole for the 50 MP selfie camera with autofocus and an f/1.9 aperture.
Beneath the screen is a fingerprint scanner, which we found to be fast and accurate in the short time we spent with the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. However, we found it a bit small and ideally should have been placed slightly higher for a better unlocking experience.
On the back is the Pantone-validated 50MP “AI Powered Pro-Grade Camera” with OIS and an f/1.4 aperture. It is accompanied by a 10MP telephoto camera (OIS, 3x optical, 30x hybrid) and a 13MP ultra-wide camera (120° FOV), with the latter also capable of taking macro shots thanks to its autofocus capability.
These cameras support AI-based features and are placed on a squircle-shaped unibody island, causing the phone to wobble on flat surfaces. Below this island is the distinctive Motorola logo, which reflects light at different angles.
The back cover of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro Moonlight Pearl was designed by the Italian design house Mazzucchelli 1849. It features a handmade acetate finish, with each Moonlight Pearl model having a unique pattern.
Conversely, the back panels of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro Luxe Lavender and Black Beauty models are covered in silicone vegan leather. They provide a comfortable grip, facilitated by the curved edges of the back cover. However, the panel doesn’t seamlessly fit with the metal frame, which can be a bit annoying at times.
Despite this, we appreciate the overall design of the Luxe Lavender model. It looks stylish and is comfortable to hold, making one-handed use easy.
Regarding ports and controls, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has the power key and volume buttons on the right side of the bezel. At the bottom is the USB-C port, surrounded by a SIM card slot, microphone, and speaker, while the top features the secondary microphone with Dolby Atmos text.

Under the hood, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro features the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC with 8GB/12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The smartphone runs Android 14 with the new Hello UI on top and comes without pre-installed third-party apps, which is appreciated. Motorola includes a few apps and Dolby Atmos, offering different software experiences.
Regarding software support, Motorola promises three years of Android version upgrades and four years of security updates, released quarterly.
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is equipped with a 4,500mAh battery with 125W TurboPower charging. The 8GB/128GB model comes with a 68W adapter, while the 12GB/256GB variant includes the 125W adapter.
The device also boasts an IP68 rating, 5G connectivity, NFC, stereo speakers, surround sound, and Hi-Res Audio. It supports 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wired charging, which Motorola chose to optimize the 4,500 mAh battery for the best experience.
We have already begun reviewing the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, so stay tuned to find out if it’s worth buying.
