Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has to admit that Mercedes has had a very poor start to the season. According to Wolff, this also means that Lewis Hamilton’s mind is already partly at Ferrari even more than expected.
It all sounded great, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton once again did everything they could to achieve the best possible result during this very last season. The start of that season was not good because with only 26 points, Mercedes is fourth in the World Cup standings and can only just keep Aston Martin behind.
Russell had to retire after a crash in Australia and Lewis Hamilton also had to give up, in his case the Mercedes power source suddenly gave up the ghost. Despite many encouraging words, the Mercedes W15 does not seem to be able to compete at the front. However, according to Toto Wolff, both drivers are responding reasonably well to the poor start to the season and they want to make the best of it given the circumstances and try to get Mercedes to the front as quickly as possible.
However, Toto Wolff also has to admit that Lewis Hamilton is probably already largely at Ferrari.
“I think the drivers are great considering the situation we are in, Lewis is as good as he can be,” said Wolff. “He is in a situation where on the one hand it is frustrating to see that we are not doing well, on the other hand he will also look over the wall and what he sees there is very nice to see.”
With the latter, Toto Wolff refers to Ferrari, which is currently doing very well as the future employer of Lewis Hamilton.
“However, that is not his main priority at the moment and George is a fighter. He is trying to work it out with us, he knows his place and we need to get this resolved.”
