Huawei has launched the Pocket 2, its latest clamshell foldable with improvements across the board. It is the first Huawei of this type to implement a water drop hinge for zero gap, and it is also the first flip-foldable in the world with four cameras on its cover.
The Pocket 2 features a 6.94” foldable LPTO OLED on the inside, while the cover display has a 1.15” circular display next to the camera island in a double-circle symmetrical design. The large screen has Full HD + resolution, while the circle has 340 x 340 pixels.
The company stopped revealing its chipsets a while ago, but this new phone is powered by the Kirin 9000S we assume. The RAM is 12GB with three storage options – 256GB, 512GB or 1TB. There is also a Pocket 2 Art with a sleeker look and a combination of 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
The main camera on the back of the Pocket 2 is a 50 MP shooter with OIS and an f/1.6 aperture. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a 12 MP sensor and f/2.2 aperture, while the 3x telephoto lens has an f/2.4 aperture and sits in front of an 8 MP imager and offers OIS.
The fourth unit is a 2 MP UV sensor. According to Huawei, the hyperspectral camera can detect UV intensity, indicating when sunscreen protection is needed, and detect deep sunspots.
Huawei Pocket 2
The phone supports two-way satellite messaging through Beidou, the Chinese satellite navigation system. The Pocket 2 comes with a 4,520 mAh battery, which is larger than any previous flip-foldable in the company’s portfolio. In addition, there is also 40W wireless charging for the first time, while the wired one is rated at 66W.
The relatively small phone heats up quickly, so Huawei uses a VC, conveniently placed in the top half. There are also several graphite layers to improve the thermal conductivity.
Huawei Pocket 2
The Pocket 2 comes with HarmonyOS 4 out of the box, and the UI makes customizing the cover screen much easier. It can be a clock, a mood wallpaper, a GIF with a cute animated pet, or even an avatar; the possibilities are endless.
Of course, it is also used for notifications and a second screen for taking selfies with the main camera. Since the phone is only launched in China, the screen can visualize a QR code for smart payments.
