The FIA said in a statement that it has commenced an investigation into Toto Wolff and his wife Susie Wolff after reports emerged of possible conflicts of interest.
Toto Wolff is team boss at Mercedes while Susie Wolff is boss at the F1 Academy, a racing class for female racing drivers that has been active since 2023 and races in the support program of F1. In that role, Susie Wolff, who works for the FOM and reports to F1 boss Stefano Domenicali, is said to have exchanged confidential information with her husband.
That information would be sensitive information that should not normally end up with F1 team bosses, which is why there are now concerns about a possible conflict of interest. Toto Wolff may have obtained information that other F1 team bosses did not have access to. However, the reverse is also possible because Susie Wolff could pass on information to the FOM in her position
According to the business magazine ‘BusinessF1’, comments that Toto Wolff made during a meeting would have caused annoyance among the other team bosses because they pointed to information he allegedly had that could only have been obtained through the FOM.
“The FIA is aware of speculation about the possible exchange of confidential information between an FOM employee and an F1 team principal. The FIA Compliance Department is investigating the matter,” the FIA statement said. It now remains to be seen what the outcome of the investigation will be.
