Max Verstappen has announced that he wants to take a shot at victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans together with Fernando Alonso in the future.
The three-time world champion suggested the idea at the annual Honda Thanks Day when asked if he would ever consider a move to IndyCar. Verstappen made it clear that a switch to IndyCar is not an option for the time being, but that he would consider working in other racing classes.
I would definitely like to try out a MotoGP bike, says Verstappen. I love SuperGT, I was able to try one out last year and it was really nice. They are the fastest cars in F1 and they look very nice.
But I would certainly also like to do Le Mans, he continues. I’ve been there before, my father raced in Le Mans. The atmosphere is great in endurance, so many people racing through the night and the sunrise. I think it’s really cool.
When asked with whom he would take up the challenge, Verstappen immediately comes up with Fernando Alonso.
“Well, I talked to Fernando about it. He said he would only want to do it again with me,” said Verstappen. “So I was like, wow, that would be really cool.”
“The only thing is that for Le Mans there is not really a minimum weight for the driver.”
“I’m a pretty heavy rider so I would have to find light teammates to compensate for that. But Fernando is quite light so that would be very good. But then we have to find another one, so I have to take a look.”
