According to Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack, fifth place in the constructors’ championship is certainly not a disappointment, even though his team was in second and third place for a long time during the first half of the season.
Aston Martin started the 2023 F1 season very strongly, Fernando Alonso achieved several podium finishes and ensured that Aston Martin was competing at the front among the top teams. However, by the summer Aston Martin began to slip and eventually finished the season in fifth place, behind the big three and McLaren. However, team boss Mike Krack does not think it can be called a disappointment.
“It’s not a disappointment because you have to be realistic about where you are,” Krack said, looking back on the season. “We started the year in a very good position but we also have to analyze why we were in that position. If you really analyze that and you are realistic, you cannot be disappointed.”
“We were surprised, I think everyone was surprised, that some teams didn’t start the season as well as we expected. During the development of the car they returned to, if I may say so, their ‘natural position’.”
“That is something we cannot influence with what we have. From that perspective, I think it would be wrong to say that this is a disappointing result.”
“It’s something we know we have to work on for the future if we want to become a stronger team but I really don’t think it would be correct to say this is a disappointment.”
