The OnePlus Open, OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone, is the latest phone to undergo the traditional durability tests on the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything by Zack.
As expected, the cover screen has glass on top, which scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale and gets deeper grooves at level 7. The inner screen is covered with a plastic protector, which scratches at level 2 and gets deeper grooves at level 3.
The sides of the phone are made of aluminum and are quite dustproof. The outer screen lasts about 25 seconds in contact with an open flame, while the inner panel’s plastic screen protector is burned in about five seconds.
In the bend test, the phone survives being bent from any direction when folded and also survives being bent the wrong way when open. It remains 100% functional after the test, although it doesn’t quite snap back into place like before.
OnePlus has had a shaky track record with bend tests, but the OnePlus Open has proven to be resilient. It’s great to see that the device is more resilient than expected.
