For a long time, Carlos Sainz was above teammate Charles Leclerc in the Drivers’ Championship, but during the last two races Sainz had to deal with bad luck and setbacks, which ultimately forced him to settle for seventh place. Sainz himself speaks of a ‘shadow over his F1 season’.
“The last two weekends didn’t go as I expected, or as I might have wanted to end the year,” Carlos Sainz reflects. “To be honest, I am very disappointed, I am not happy with how the battle in the Constructors’ Championship, which was very close, ended.”
“Overall I think it was a decent year for me. We had a more consistent year, we shined a little more, but I’m not satisfied with the last two races that have cast a shadow over my season.”
“We had a much stronger season than what the last two races showed. Everything went wrong for me during the last two races and in a dramatic way, but it is what it is. Sometimes there are years like this year.”
“Normally I am at my strongest at the end of the season but this season, for whatever reason, that was not the case.”
“It is now time to sit together, make analyses, see what I could have done better in the last races, and fight back strongly.”
