The Mercedes F1 team eventually managed to win the battle with Ferrari for second place in the constructors’ championship. In a video looking back at the Abu Dhabi GP, the Mercedes F1 team says it was relieved that it managed to win that battle.
The battle between Mercedes and Ferrari for second place in the constructors’ championship was very close. Literally until the checkered flag there was a fight for second place and in the end it was Mercedes that won that battle.
An advantage of second place is extra prize money, a disadvantage is less wind tunnel time than the team that finished third. Yet Mercedes is very happy and relieved that they managed to win the battle for second place. At Mercedes, however, they are happy with that second place.
“The ultimate goal for all of us is to win world titles and we failed to do that this year,” said Rosie Wait, head of racing strategy at Mercedes. “However, considering the performance and the challenges we faced, second place is a very good result. The atmosphere is mainly one of joy and relief that we came second.
“Now we can invest all our energy in finishing one position higher next year.”
