Harman, a Samsung-based audio electronics company, has recently acquired Roon – a music player platform designed for audiophiles. Roon is well-known for its ability to be used across various devices in multiple rooms, regardless of the brand.
Harman is the owner of audio brands like AKG, dbx, JBL, and Soundcraft, and it operates globally. Having been part of Samsung since 2017, the company’s expertise can be seen in Samsung headphones and smartphones.
Dave Rodgers, President of the Lifestyle Division at Harman, expressed that the acquisition is in line with the company’s mission to “create exceptional audio experiences” for partners and consumers worldwide. Roon CEO Enno Vandermeer also mentioned that joining forces will provide Roon with the scale, resources, and reach of a global technology leader.
Ecosystem of applications that work with Roon
Despite the acquisition, the brand will maintain its independence to invest in its growth and future. However, it will bring its expertise in data management and consumer engagement capabilities to all Harman partners, including Samsung Mobile.
