Redmi is hosting a grand event today, starting with the unveiling of the Redmi K70 and Redmi K70 Pro smartphones. Both feature a new 50 MP main camera, fast charging, and flagship chipsets.
Redmi K70
Xiaomi equipped this phone with a 6.67” OLED display with 1440p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The 12-bit display can show 68.7 billion colors and reach up to 4,000 nits peak brightness – the highest in the industry according to the company’s claims. Xiaomi has also developed an AI algorithm to scale up certain video games and applications.
The Redmi K70 runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – Qualcomm’s top platform for 2022. It is paired with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and between 256GB and 1TB of UV 4.0 storage.
The 50 MP main camera on the back has a new sensor that is 1/1.55” in size and has an f/1.6 aperture on the front and OIS. There’s also an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 2 MP depth sensor.
The front camera has a 16MP sensor, and while Redmi hasn’t mentioned any specs for it, we’re likely looking at the same 1/3.06” sensor with an nf/2.5 lens from the Redmi K60 series.
Redmi K70 is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 120W charging, enabling it to fully charge in just 18 minutes. The phone also has a standalone P2 charging chip and a G1 battery management chip to improve battery life and overall power management.
The device also comes with a 5,000 sq.mm cooling area, including a VC, which is 10% larger than in the predecessors.
Part of the Xiaomi universe, Redmi K70 comes with Android 14-based HyperOS out of the box. It does have NFC, Bluetooth 5.3, and a dual nano SIM slot, but lacks a microSD slot and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The Redmi K70 will go on sale in China on December 1 at 10am. Color options are White, Black, Moonstone Blue, and Violet. Prices start from CNY2,499 ($350/€320) for the 12/256 GB variant and reach CNY3,399 ($480/€435) for the most powerful 16 GB/1 TB version.
Redmi K70 Pro
The Redmi K70 Pro is built around the same 6.67” OLED display of 1440p, developed together with TCL.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is one of the major upgrades compared to the vanilla K70.
The Pro’s main camera matches the 50 MP sensor with OIS from the Redmi K70. The Pro ups the ante with a 50MP proper telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and a more powerful 12MP ultra-wide shooter. The selfie camera has a 16 MP sensor.
The 5,000mAh battery has 120W charging with the same promise of a full charge in 18 minutes.
Redmi K70 Pro comes in three colors – Black, White, and Blue. Prices are CNY3,299 ($465/€420) for 12/256GB, CNY3,599 ($505/€460) for 16/256GB, CNY3,899 ($550/€500) for 16/512GB, and CNY4,399 ($620/€565) for 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
