Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur has praised Max Verstappen for his results this season. However, Vasseur hopes that Verstappen will be put under more pressure next year and that he will therefore make a mistake and the title battle will be more exciting.
“He had a great season, competing with Sergio Perez in the first two or three race weekends and then being on another planet,” said Vasseur. “He clearly hasn’t made any mistakes this season. Even when he had problems in Jeddah, I think it was because of a problem.”
“He was always there, he always made good starts without making contact. The only time was in Vegas, we got a little closer to him but I wouldn’t say we were able to really put pressure on him because that wasn’t true.”
“He wasn’t really put under pressure in Abu Dhabi. But he was probably put under a bit more pressure now than when he was in Zandvoort in the rain.”
Frederic Vasseur hopes that Verstappen will make more mistakes next year when he is put under more pressure by different teams and drivers.
“There is no doubt that he has dominated the season. The only problem for us is that, like everyone else, he will make more mistakes when he is put under pressure,” said Vasseur. “However, no one has been able to put pressure on him this season, apart from the last two three races and the race that Carlos won in Singapore.”
“That’s when he started making some mistakes or when Red Bull made some mistakes with the setup of the car.”
